Work Order Management

What is a work order in SAP?

A work order in SAP is a crucial component of the Plant Maintenance (PM) module within the SAP ERP system. It serves as a formal document that authorizes and tracks maintenance, repair, or production tasks within an organization. Work orders contain detailed information such as:

• Description of work to be performed
• Equipment or asset details
• Required resources (labor, materials, tools)
• Planned start and end dates
• Cost estimates and budget allocation
• Work order priority and status

Work orders are generated based on maintenance strategies, including preventive maintenance schedules, corrective maintenance requests, or production requirements. They play a vital role in coordinating work activities, optimizing resource utilization, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
